According to the statistics of Beijing subway passenger traffic department, by the end of 2006, the accumulative subway traffic volume has surpassed 10 billion person-times since its operation in 1971.  

It has been 36 years since the operation of Beijing subway in 1971. Now, there are four subway lines with operation mileage reaching 114km, and 70 stations. The subway traffic volume in 2005 accounted for 13% of the total urban public traffic volume of the year. In 2006, the passenger traffic volume reached 765 million person-times, i.e. nearly 2.1 million person-times every day on average. The maximum daily passenger traffic volume reached a record 2.83 million person-times since the operation.
