Old lines witness stable growth of passenger traffic flow, and new lines attract passengers constantly. The annual subway traffic volume surpassed 600 million person-times for the first time.
In 2004, Beijing subway traffic volume surpassed 600 million person-times for the first time, reaching 606.68 million person-times, marking a new record, up 28.57% over the year 2003. And the maximum daily traffic volume was 2.34 million person-times on Oct.1, 2004 during the National Day Holiday. 450,000 subway trains ran in the whole year, up 23.66% over the previous year. The compliance rate of operation map was 99.96%, and the on schedule rate of subway trains reached 99.57%.
In 2004, due to the trial operation of Batong Line, the number of subway lines in operation increased to four, with operation mileage reaching 114km, and operation stations increase to 70, of which, there are six interchange stations of for passengers. Faced with the change of passenger flow, Beijing Subway adjusted operation countermeasures and took positive measures. Firstly, as for Line 1 and Line 2, efforts were made to improve their operation capacity and service, carry out the requirement for “passenger traffic flow is based on safety”, and enhance the capability to deal with the impact of large passenger flow and the level of safe prevention and disposal; secondly, efforts were made to put into the use of new subway trains in Line 13 and Batong Line, improve train and equipment stability, shorten train operation interval, and thus maintain the stable growth of passenger flow of old subway lines, and attraction of new subway lines to passenger flow. In the year 2004, subway Line 1 and Line 2 transported passengers for 547 million person-times, and Line 13 transported passengers for more than 40 million person-times, up 89.93 over the same period of the previous year; the passenger traffic volume of Batong Line surpassed 16 million person-times.
In 2004, Beijing Subway upheld the guidelines, i.e. “Safety is the foundation, service is the root, efficiency is the goal, management is the means, and reform is the momentum”, and established the safe work principle of “Putting safety first with the focus on prevention”. The company paid attention to trivial matters and prevented big risks, and took early prevention measures for safety so as to consolidate the foundation for safety. Last years, the company intensified its efforts to update and restructure subway trains and equipment. All the subway trains used on Line 13 were new type air-conditioned trains. For Batong Line, there were eight sets of new trains put in operation. Besides, the company strengthened its efforts to maintain the key facilities for power supply, circuit, communication, and signal, which stabilized and consolidated the foundation for subway safety. Meanwhile, the company further carried out safety responsibility system, improved safety evaluation system and other key tasks, deepened the publicity and implementation of the Administration Methods for Beijing Urban Rail Traffic Safe Operation. The company conducted public safety and safe production publicity and education among passengers and the whole staff, which promoted their safety awareness, safety knowledge, and safety prevention skills. In addition, the company intensified its work on the early disposal of emergencies and sudden incidents, organized and conducted a series of drills for the emergency disposal of fire control, explosion prevention, and emergency disposal and rescue, which improved the capability to deal with emergencies and rescue.
Last year, Beijing Subway followed the human-oriented service concept, improved service facilities, maintained civilized and harmonious subway-riding environment, and promoted the overall service. The company continued to deepen the publicity and education activity “Civilized subway-riding starts from myself”. On the basis of consolidating the practice of taking elevators in a civilized manner, the company conducted “swiping cards in a civilized manner”, and initiated “wait for the subway at the line” and other work, which effectively improved subway operation environment, maintained civilized atmosphere, and enhanced the good social credit standing of subway. The company conducted reconstruction of unimpeded facilities, laid 20000 extended meters of blind sidewalk, and reconstructed 10 toilets in key stations. Besides, the company concentrated manpower, material resources and financial resources to rectify station order. With more than 3000 person-times manpower, efforts were made to rectify vendors, people making a living by performance, and beggars etc. reaching 13000 person-times.
